The Arizona Republic Endorses Doug Ducey
PHOENIX — The Arizona Republic today endorsed Governor Doug Ducey for the August 28 primary election, citing his strong record of accomplishment — which includes balancing a billion-dollar budget deficit, growing the state economy, and adding billions in new funding for public schools.
While Governor Ducey inherited “a billion-dollar deficit and a flagging economy,” the Republic writes, “he now presides over one of the fastest-growing states in the nation enjoying higher-than-average job growth.”
When it comes to education, the Republic notes he was successful in adding “$2.7 billion in his first term, without raising taxes” and passing Prop. 123, which “plowed billions of dollars into the public school system when the economy was still sluggish.”
The Republic notes “teachers were seeing on average 5 percent raises in their salaries” during Governor Ducey’s term even before the #20×2020 plan. The new #20×2020 plan passed in this year’s budget gives teachers an additional 10% raise this fall, and delivers a 20% raise by school year 2020.
“In the GOP race, Doug Ducey is the clear choice, the candidate to support if you want someone who balances all the competing priorities in a $10 billion budget.”
