Former Janet Napolitano Campaign Manager, Mario Diaz, Joins Ducey Campaign
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
“Governor Ducey has been a governor for all the people, and fostered an inclusive administration, where good ideas are welcomed, without regard to partisan politics.”
PHOENIX — Mario E Diaz, a prominent Democratic strategist and leader in the Latino community, today announced he is joining Governor Doug Ducey’s campaign team as an advisor. Diaz previously served as campaign manager for former Democratic Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, as well as in the offices of U.S. Senator Dennis DeConcini and Congressman Ed Pastor.
“I’ve always been someone who will support the individual who is best for Arizona – regardless of party. Governor Ducey is that person,” Diaz said. “The governor has taken a pragmatic and bipartisan approach to the key issues facing our state — from education to opioids to rebuilding our state’s reputation. Governor Ducey has been a governor for all the people, and fostered an inclusive administration, where good ideas are welcomed, without regard to partisan politics. The last thing we need to do is move backward by sending someone with extreme views to the Governor’s Office. I’m proud to be joining Governor Ducey’s campaign.”
“Mario is a consummate professional, and well-respected leader in our state, with decades of experience in public service,” said Governor Ducey. “I am very pleased to have Mario joining our team. His voice and his perspective are welcome.”
Mario E Diaz has over two decades of experience in public service in Arizona and working for Democratic campaigns. Mario began his career working in the offices U.S. Senator Dennis DeConcini and Congressman Ed Pastor, both Democrats, as well as serving as the Law Enforcement Liaison for United States Attorney Janet Napolitano.
Mario went on to serve as the campaign manager for Janet Napolitano’s Attorney General Campaign as well as for her campaign for governor. Following Napolitano’s election, Diaz was appointed to Governor-Elect Napolitano’s Transition Team and later served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Napolitano.
In 2003, Mario was appointed State Director for the John Kerry for President Campaign. In December 2016, he received an appointment from the Obama Administration to serve as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army.
Mario earned a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in 1991 and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from ASU in 1997, a year in which he was awarded the prestigious Hispanic Graduate of the Year award. He also has been awarded the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce “Man of the Year” Award; the Anti-Defamation League (Arizona Chapter) Community Partnership Award; the Valle del Sol Profiles of Success Award and the Arizona State University College of Liberal Arts & Science Community Award.
